Vandals Face Justice: Ikeja Electric Secures Convictions

In a significant victory for Ikeja Electric, three individuals have been convicted by Magistrate courts in Lagos for vandalizing and stealing electricity distribution equipment within the company's network.

The convictions, handed down on May 5 and May 7, 2025, respectively, demonstrate the company's unwavering commitment to protecting its infrastructure and ensuring reliable electricity distribution to its customers.

Adegbite Jamiu, Jeremiah Chukwuemeka, and Joshua Udeh were found guilty of various offenses, including conspiracy, unlawful damage, and stealing. The court sentenced Jamiu to six months' imprisonment, while Chukwuemeka and Udeh were each sentenced to one year imprisonment.

Ikeja Electric's Chief Legal, Regulatory, and Compliance Officer, Mr. Babatunde Osadare, welcomed the convictions, stating that they reinforce the company's zero-tolerance stance on vandalism. "These convictions demonstrate our commitment to protecting our infrastructure and ensuring reliable electricity distribution to our customers," he said.

The company has urged community members to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities, while also appreciating the efforts of the judiciary and law enforcement agencies in securing the convictions.

According to Kingsley Okotie, Head of Corporate Communications at Ikeja Electric Plc, the company will continue to work closely with security agencies and host communities to curb vandalism and safeguard assets critical to power supply and economic development in the region.
