COUNCILORS, LEGISLATIVE STAFF EMPOWERED AT BADAGRY WORKSHOP

In a bid to strengthen grassroots governance and enhance legislative efficiency, newly elected councilors and legislative staff from Lagos State's local governments and local council development areas recently converged on Topo, Badagry, for a three-day intensive workshop on legislative management.

The workshop, themed "Workshop on Current Thinking in Legislative Management Towards Maximal Operational Excellence," aimed to equip participants with the knowledge, skills, and modern strategies necessary to effectively discharge their constitutional roles. Key areas of focus included legislative ethics and responsibilities, effective law-making and oversight functions, leadership and conflict management, modern administrative practices, and strategies for achieving operational excellence.

Facilitators emphasized the importance of continuous capacity building for legislators and their aides, highlighting that strong legislative arms at the grassroots level are crucial for democratic growth and service delivery. Participants appreciated the opportunity, noting that the workshop would enhance their productivity and prepare them to deliver on their mandates with renewed vigor and competence.

The workshop also explored the usefulness of advanced technology in legislative council official activities, further underscoring the government's commitment to good governance, transparency, and accountability. Actionable resolutions were adopted at the end of the three-day workshop, which will guide legislative operations across all councils in Lagos State, contributing to stronger institutions and sustainable community development.
