GUN MEN ATTACK MOSAN/OKUNOLA LCDA SECRETARIAT ON THE EVE OF ELECTION; SHOOT SPORADICALLY,VANDALISE CARS

Since most of the staff of Mosan/Okunola LCDA secretariat spend most part of the day at the Council, many of them registered at a polling unit close to their place of work. That singular decision could have been there undoing but for their God who definitely wasn’t sleeping when armed men came to their office to rain bullets on them.
Since movement on Election Day was restricted, the Staff decided to spend the night at the Council and to make the place lively, they decided to play music all night to keep themselves awake and probably to dance and have some fun. All that was not to be as at about 11pm, masked men dressed in black stormed the place and shot sporadically hitting many targets and shattering the windscreen of 5 cars that were parked at the car park. There were bullet holes on the walls, office doors, on the Gate.
What could have been their intention? When Abesan News spoke with the Council Chairman, Mr. Omoloju in his office, he was full of thanks to God that the bullet didn’t hit anybody. He explained how the staff had decided to stay in the Council overnight since most of them were to vote at a polling unit close to their office. With the extent of damage and the manner it was carried out, the Council Chairman who was present when the whole incident happened said the boys that did that must have been under the influence of hard drug. Taking Abesan News crew round the premises, he told us a few staff were outside when they came and even greeted them, thinking they were Police men. He said they had police protection before but just when the team stepped out to patrol, an Okada came, probably to confirm the absence of the Police and then men numbering about 10 came in a Bus to cause the mayhem.  Those met outside were severely beaten with machete and told to lie down on the floor while the whole shooting was carried out.
The police responded less than ten minutes when the incident happened but the men were already gone. When Abesan News called the Lagos Police PRO DSP Keneth Nwosu, he couldn’t say anything as he wasn’t aware of the incident.
When we spoke with the Executive Secretary of Mosan/Okunola, Hon. Opeyemi Adunni Akindele where she was voting, she expressed shock at what happened. She was thankful however that nobody was hit by the bullets.

Hon. Opeyemi Adunni Akindele with Editor of Abesan News

Hon. Opeyemi Adunni Akindele, Executive Secretary, Mosan/Okunola

Accreditation should have started in Abesan but no INEC official is in sight. We caught up with the Executive Secretary of Mosan/okunola, Hon. Opeyemi Adunni Akindele waiting patiently for INEC officials at her polling unit and we asked her a few questions.

ABESAN NEWS: Good morning ma, can you tell us why INEC officials are not here if you know?
EXECUTIVE SECRETARY: Actually, we went for a seminar where we were told the INEC officials will be waiting for us, not we waiting for them. they said they have made arrangements for INEC officials to be around a day before the elections. Unfortunately, this is 9:30am and we are yet to see INEC officials in Mosan/Okunola LCDA. I have tried to call the E.O but he has not been picking up. I just want to ask him why the accreditation has not started.

ABESAN NEWS: in other words, you are not satisfied with the conduct of INEC as at now…
EXECUTIVE SECRETARY: …at all! You can see people waiting. People are ready for accreditation but unfortunately, INEC is not ready for us. That’s how I can put it.

ABESAN NEWS: Any message for the people of Mosan/Okunola?
EXECUTIVE SECRETARY: I just want to tell the good people of Mosan/Okunola to vote their conscience and vote for change. We really need change in Nigeria. END

Agbaje Commends Fashola, Uses Ambode's Slogan In His message

In his speech released on his facebook today, the governorship candidate of the PDP in Lagos, Jimi Agbaje commended Gov. Fashola for his activities to move Lagos forward, admitted he is doing very well and at the end of his speech, went on to use "we are coming", a popular slogan used by the governorship candidate of the APC in Lagos, Akinwunmi Ambode. in his speech, he also stated that he knew he was contesting against a very stron opposition that has built a strong base since 1999. Please read the full speech below:

"When I set out to run as a candidate for Governor of Lagos State, I wasn't under any illusions that it was going to be easy. First, I knew that I would be running against a machinery that wasn't built overnight. A deep rooted structure systematically developed over 16-years and backed by some of the most seasoned politicians in western Nigeria.
I understood that my ideas and vision for a government that works not just for the elite but for ordinary people will be measured against a popular sitting Governor whose work - putting politics aside - is worthy of commendation. I foresaw that I would have to prove to Lagosians why the real choice in this election isn't about continuity but about progress. And that although the current state governments policies have focused largely on developing infrastructure and expanding governments pockets through taxation, we will have no real progress if our development is achieved at expense of ordinary people especially when we've done so empowering a few elites over the greater good of our people.
For me, it was clear that Lagos needed a more inclusive government - open for all to freely participate. One where the influence of 'vested interests' is de-prioritized and development of our metropolis would need to shift focus to regions beyond the center of commercial activities like Ikoyi, Victoria Island and Marina. I set out confidently believing that if I showed Lagosians how I will govern Lagos by the way I run my campaign; if I shared our bold ideas and presented a vision of leapfrogging Lagos into the mega-city of our dreams, that I would stand a chance and perhaps have the honour of serving as the next Governor of Lagos.
As d-day approaches, one can only feel fortunate to be here. This campaign has evolved from one man's aspiration to a movement of people who share a common vision. I see it everyday. I see it in the Yorubas, the Igbos, the Hausas, the Itsekiris, the Calabaris, the Ijaws - every single person of varying tongue, tribe and creed that I've had the privilege of meeting in this campaign. I see it in the young and the old, the rich and the less-privileged. However, I must say that I'm ashamed that in an era where ideas rule - an era where this contest should be about whose vision better secures our future and the future of our children, there are people who've decided to make this election about intimidation by defacing our boards and campaign infrastructure.
I have a few choice words for you: We will not retaliate. Our only retaliation will be our victory. Lagos, we're coming."

Mbaka Lied Over Frozen Accounts – EFCC

The Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) has described as blatant lie the claim by the Enugu-based Catholic priest, Reverend father Ejike Mbaka, that his accounts had been frozen by the commission.

EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, stated this in an interview with Daily Independent in Abuja, yesterday.

His words: “There is no truth in the story and there is nothing like that. Our men have not frozen and do not intend freeze the account of cleric as he claimed.”

It would be recalled that there were media reports claiming that the EFCC have frozen all the accounts of the cleric.

The media reported that Mbaka at his Wednesday Adoration Mass for the sick and needy narrated to his congregation how he went to withdraw money to buy food items for the poor that relocated from Northern Nigeria because of the election but to his surprise his cheques were returned.

The report further noted that when he (Mbaka) enquired why he could not make any withdrawals, he was told EFCC directed his accounts to be frozen.

He stated that the commission is also inviting him to EFCC office in Port Harcourt for questioning.

However, the EFCC further reiterated that all the claims by the cleric were not true.

Breaking news EFCC freezes all Father Mbaka Accounts

The information reaching us from Enugu says Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) have frozen all accounts of well known Enugu based reverend father Ejike Mbaka.
According to our source who was present at Mbaka’s Wednesday adoration Mass for the sick and needy, the reverend while giving his sermon narrated to his congregation how he went to withdraw money to buy food items for the poor masses that moved down from north Because of the election But to his surprise his cheques were returned. When he enquired why he could not make any withdrawals, he was told EFCC has directed his accounts to be frozen. He stated that the commission is also inviting him to EFCC office in Port Harcourt for questioning.
The Reverend guessed the order may have been from President Goodluck Jonathan to cripple his activities during the elections that is coming up this weekend. He further stated that he is not scared but in order to cautious and not fall victim of assassination, he will not honor the invitation from EFCC. “They have threatened to arrest me at the cathedraticum which will take place at holy ghost cathedral, Enugu. I won’t fail to be there on Friday” he said
The source who gave his name as Benjamin disclosed that President Goodluck is lucky that it is just one day to the election before the EFCC issue with father Mbaka cropped up. “the situation Would have messed him up”
Another ardent follower of the popular Mbaka adoration confirmed the story. But we could not get the father to confirm the story himself.?
