Abesan Demolition: Governor Ambode Got it Wrong This Time – Adeleye Tom-Adeloye

A resident of Abesan Estate in Alimosho, Lagos, Adeleye Tom-Opeloye, has written an open letter to Governor Ambode concerning the demolition of illegal structures in the estate. In a letter made available to Abesan News and Alimosho Standard, he said the governor did not get it right at all, this time.
Though he claims to have been a fan of Governor Ambode from the beginning due to the giant strides in his performance, he is faulting this particular move that will affect the lives of elderly people who voted him into office. He is also questioning the purpose of the demolition since there is no breakdown of law and order or epidemic in Abesan presently or in the nearest future. Read his letter:

Memo to my Governor of Lagos State. Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode The governor sir.
You demolished shops and buildings @ OSHODI, yaba etc all for public interest & emerging mega status of Lagos.
But why demolish shops in Abesan estate where: residents have fully paid up, no breakout of epidemic has never occurred, the majority owners are old pensioners who out of boredom of staying in 2storey buildings without balcony & out of their social animals insticts had thought of making their environment condusive for their welfare had built shops to let out steam and have better social & commercial interactions with fellow residents to achieve general well-being, Where youths who 'cos of d economic realities of the country; & for reasons of staying out of crime, had thought of surviving on showing football matches, running bathing saloon, shoe making businesses etc. Where there has not been any serious conflicts traceable to the shops. Just to say a few.
We will just one day wake up to hear that all the shops have to go because the government thinks the estate is not healthy enough for human habitations, the value of the estate is not what it should be, there are complaints from neighbors Quareling cause of shop space, the regulations for purchase of the flats are being abused etc.
A comparison of the reasons given from both sides will be clear to a balanced mind that needs are more important than wants. As a government elected by the electorates, the government could have looked more at the Humain reasons more. I thought the government would realize that truly the people have their Exceses, a model of the shops could have been decided & all owners asked to comply rather than cut off a head due to headache. Talks of conflicts in human gathering is a reality in every human habitations government could have rather help to resolve such amicably or @ worst those involved approach a court of law for resolution. The government could have done better by making drainages , water pipes, disposal system functional, the estate could have been more healthier for human habitations. In fact the estate is made more secure by the illumination provided by the shops at night cause the estate is lonely and dangerous to walk in at night due to the obvious darkness that abound when all the shops are removed. We can continue on and on.
One thing is I have been proud of you since you came to office and had always been on your side cos i see you as a model Nigerian leader, I also believe you will read this and make me trust your judgement more.
I leave the rest for the future and posterity.
Thank you, sir. Your excellency.
