Ikeja Electric and LECAN Train Over 100 Young Electricians in Lagos

Lagos, Nigeria – October 11, 2025

Ikeja Electric Plc, Nigeria’s leading electricity distribution company, partnered with the Licensed Electrical Contractors Association of Nigeria (LECAN) to host a one-day intensive skills acquisition and capacity-building program themed “Electrical Safety and Best Practices in the Electricity Industry.” The initiative, held in Lagos, brought together over 100 field technicians and electrical professionals for hands-on training focused on safety protocols, alternative power integration, and industry-standard electrical installations.

The program provided participants with practical knowledge on electrical safety, connection hazards, risk management, and emerging technologies in energy distribution. The training aligns with Ikeja Electric’s commitment to fostering a zero-harm culture and enhancing professional development within Nigeria’s energy sector.

Comrade Bada Waheed, LECAN’s State Chairman, praised Ikeja Electric for its dedication to capacity building. “This initiative showcases the power of collaboration between industry leaders and professional bodies. Our young electricians are the future of Nigeria’s energy value chain, and programs like this ensure they are skilled, informed, and safety-conscious,” Waheed stated. He expressed hope for future partnerships to further empower youth and bridge the gap between learning and practical application.

Mr. Kingsley Okotie, Head of Corporate Communications at Ikeja Electric, emphasized the importance of such initiatives in addressing knowledge gaps and promoting safety. “Electricity demands responsibility and precision. This training empowers technicians with the skills to work safely and efficiently while integrating innovations like renewable energy,” Okotie said. He highlighted the collaboration with LECAN as part of Ikeja Electric’s broader vision to build safer communities through education, reduce accidents, and prevent loss of life and property.

Participants lauded the program’s impact. Mr. Makinde Adeyinka, a beneficiary, described the training as “eye-opening” and expressed gratitude to both organizations. “I’ve learned so much about safety standards, proper installations, and building a sustainable career. I look forward to more opportunities like this,” he said.

The training is part of Ikeja Electric’s ongoing efforts to promote youth empowerment, workplace safety, and operational excellence. The company remains committed to nurturing local talent and advancing Nigeria’s electricity industry.
