Ajasa Command Lament Over Poor Power Supply

By Seyi Babalola

The residents of Ajasa Command have at a town hall meeting, on Tuesday, February 19, 2016 lamented over poor power supply in the community.

Prior to unending frustration, residents of Ajasa Command, Ipaja, Lagos took to the street, staging peaceful protest when the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company, IKEDC came visiting the area.

Blackout in the community is traced back to inability of installed transformer to adequately serve the community. The current transformer is often overloaded.

Showing dissatisfaction on the power problem, Festus Olu who is the Financial Secretary of Ward 5 complained IKEDC has not been fair to them adding that they only come to collect without improvement of any sort. In his words, “a business man that has taken a concessionaire agreement has to invest and improve on the existing facilities and manage his customers”.

Commenting on the devastating development, the Community Development Area Chairman, Gbenga Ajala, explained, “The transformer given to us has been overloaded. We have sent different delegates to IKEDC and their responses have always been that they cannot give what they don't have”.

Gbenga Ajala emphasized the need for IKEDC to swiftly respond to the community request so that adequate power supply could be restored to the community because the residents are known for their prompt payment of electricity bills.

A representative of IKEDC, Lawal Sekoni expressed his concerns to the people of Ajasa Community. He said: “the maximum consideration will be given to the issue and preferable solution will take effect”.
