SENATOR SOLOMON OLAMILEKAN’S (YAYI) ABANDONED PUBLIC HEALTH CARE PROJECT THREATENS COMMUNITY WELL BEING

YAYI
The Community Development Associations of A Zone Shagari Estate in Alimosho Local Government area of Lagos state have voiced out their frustrations and pains about the abandoned Public Health Care project which was initiated by the then House committee Chairman on Public Account representing Alimosho constituency and now  Senator Adeola Olamilekan (YAYI) representing Lagos West.
Speaking on Behalf of the entire community in a press conference organized in the Estate, the executives of the community Development Association led by their Chairman Mr. Olufemi Oyewole Ojo clamored that the abandoned project has been a source of agony for the entire community as it has become a comfortable breeding grounds and habitation for reptiles and other dangerous animals and this could put the lives of the residents at risk.
According to the CDA Chairman, “the project was initiated by the community when they came together for a common goal of building a sizable Health Care center which will cater for the community. The community had initially laid the foundation which was done elaborately by the then Chairman of Mosan Okunola, Alhaji Abiodun Mafe. Immediately after the ceremony, Senator Olamilekan Adeola popularly known as YAYI in got to know about the project and sent some emissaries to the community to take a look at the project. He then decided to relief the community of the burden by sponsoring the project to the Federal Ministry of Health and it was later taken over by the National Primary Health Care Development Agency. At that level, a contractor came on board and said the project had been awarded to them and they were to demolish the existing foundation to pave way for the proposed federal design.
“At some point we felt very uneasy about the development but later succumbed when we saw their level of seriousness and facilities that will be put in place. They came up with standard foundation which was done in less than four weeks. In fact we were amazed and thought that the entire project would be completed in less than six months owing to the speedy approach. It is now four years the foundation was done but it has not gone beyond the foundation level. Just immediately after the laying of the foundation, the contractors disappeared” the CDA chairman, Mr. Olufemi Ojo lamented.
Speaking on the various strategies which the community had explored to get the attention of the senator, the chairman disclosed that they have written series of letters through his constituency without any response. “Just of Recent, we wrote a letter directly to the executive Director, National Primary Health Development Agency in Abuja and Senator YAYI was also copied in that letter but we are yet to receive any response from the quarter”. He submitted.
Highlighting some of the benefits of the public health care center to the community and the neighboring communities, Mr. Olufemi Ojo said “The project, if finally completed will serve as a succor to other communities being a federal government Estate. It will enable about five neighboring communities to take advantage of the facilities in the health centre. Apart from creating job opportunity, it will also reduce the mortality rate because it means that health is closer to the people unlike when we keep losing some of our community members to minor illness. Most time, before we get to health facilities available in distance locations like Ikeja or Ayobo, things would have gone from bad to worse for the patients owing to the terrible traffic jam experienced on our roads.”
Other executives of the CDA who were present at the press conference and who also spoke on behalf of the community are Elder statesman, Mr. Adeola, the Treasurer of the CDA, Elder Oladunjoye, the Gen. Sec. Mr. Akintunde Ogunleye and Ex official of the CDA Mr. Adejare.

Lagos To Commence Construction Of World Class Medical Park

DSC_5955
The Lagos State Government on Wednesday announced plans to commence the construction of world class Medical Park under a Public Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement, just as it restated its commitment to improve healthcare experience and promote medical tourism and excellent healthcare services of international standard in the State.
The State’s Commissioner for Health, Dr. Jide Idris who disclosed this while briefing Government House Correspondents after the weekly State Executive Council Meeting, said the project has already been awarded to MEDIPARK International Limited Consortium which comprises of MEDIPARK International Limited, Cleveland Clinics Ohio USA, St. Barnabas Healthcare System New Jersey and American Hospital Management Company Washington DC.
Idris, who briefed journalists alongside the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Steve Ayorinde and Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Mr. Wasiu Anifowose, said the project would be completed in 20 months, and that it would gulp about N49 billion, while the State Government would only provide the land and the market.
Idris recalled that the State Government had last year placed adverts in national dailies for Expressions of Interest for a development of a Medical Park aimed at ensuring qualitative healthcare delivery to Lagosians.
He said 16 companies/consortiums responded to the advertisement, after which an Evaluation Committee was set up in line with State procurement guidelines with individuals comprising both statutorily mandated members and officers invited to lend technical depth to the exercise.

“It gives me great pleasure to announce that after the receipt of a Certificate of Compliance from the State Public Procurement Agency and a final presentation today to the Executive Council of Lagos State, Approval has been given to MEDIPARK International Limited Consortium which comprises of MEDIPARK International Limited, Cleveland Clinics Ohio USA, St. Barnabas Healthcare System New Jersey and American Hospital Management Company Washington DC to be the developer to construct manage and operate a Medical Park. It is a joint venture arrangement with Ibile Holdings Ltd,” Idris said.
He said the Medical Park would be sited at the former Lagos State School of Nursing site, spanning over two hectares expanse of land along Awolowo Road, Ikoyi and will serve as a one stop shopping medical experience offering spaces to primary care physicians alongside in-house specialists as well as ancillary services providing a full spectrum of excellent quality high technology cutting – edge medical and diagnostic services to cater for general and specialty medical services tailored to meet the medical needs of Lagosians and Nigerians at large.
The facility, Idris said would comprise of a central management area, clinic complex, theatre complex and procedure rooms, ward complex, conference and seminar complex medical goods and lifestyle shopping centre, stress management and lifestyle improvement unit, data cabling/integrated IT system, structured landscaping, residential accommodation, staff quarters, hotel, emergency and ambulance service, trauma unit, helipad among other things.
He also said that the facility which will be built under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) initiative was a milestone in healthcare delivery aimed at reducing medical tourism abroad.
Speaking on the yardstick used in selecting MEDIPARK International, Idris said: “You see, 16 companies started the expression of interest. The first step was just to assess their capabilities and we now narrowed them down to 7 companies which later presented proper proposals on the terms of reference we gave them. Based on the assessment of experts, the list was further pruned down to three and later, we arrived at the one which was finally awarded the project.
“The ultimate goal is that we as a Government believe that health is wealth and there is no amount of investment in the healthcare sector, that can be too much for the good people of this State because the progress of the state in all ramifications is paramount to us,” the Commissioner said.

An unassuming young man, we visited him and engaged him on his plans for the people of Agbado OkeOdo LCDA and why he decided to go into politics despite enjoying a flourishing career in the Banking industry. ‘Afeezman’ as he is popularly known and addressed by people is not a new entrant into Agbado OkeOdo politics. From his antecedents in the politics of Agbado OkeOdo and his mobilization ability, he believes Agbado okeOdo will fare very well under his leadership.
When asked to rate Governor Akinwumi Ambode’s performance in Alimosho since he became governor,  Afeez Olatunde Alaran who is older than the present Executive Secretaryy of Alimoosho Local Government, responded by saying the slogan “Itesiwaju Eko …Lo je wa logun”. He added that Alimosho couldn’t have been luckier with another man as the Chief Executive of the State. Having worked with Ambode during campaigns and knowing the substance he is made of, he assures Alimosho hasn’t seen anything yet. He noted the many constructions going on at the same time in Alimosho and believes before the end of Ambode’s first four-year tenure, Alimosho will be looking like Victoria Island.
