The Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) has described as
blatant lie the claim by the Enugu-based Catholic priest, Reverend
father Ejike Mbaka, that his accounts had been frozen by the commission.
EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, stated this in an interview with Daily Independent in Abuja, yesterday.
His
words: “There is no truth in the story and there is nothing like that.
Our men have not frozen and do not intend freeze the account of cleric
as he claimed.”
It would be recalled that there were media reports claiming that the EFCC have frozen all the accounts of the cleric.
The
media reported that Mbaka at his Wednesday Adoration Mass for the sick
and needy narrated to his congregation how he went to withdraw money to
buy food items for the poor that relocated from Northern Nigeria because
of the election but to his surprise his cheques were returned.
The
report further noted that when he (Mbaka) enquired why he could not
make any withdrawals, he was told EFCC directed his accounts to be
frozen.
He stated that the commission is also inviting him to EFCC office in Port Harcourt for questioning.
However, the EFCC further reiterated that all the claims by the cleric were not true.
