CHESS HELPS CHILDREN IN THEIR REASONING – Mrs. Patricia Orji, Head of School, Redeemers Nursery And Primary School.



All Roads lead to Redeemers Nursery and Primary School at Gowon Estate, Egbeda, Lagos on Saturday, 20th of June, 2015 for a Closed Chess competition for Pupils of the school.
The Head of School, Mrs. Patricia Orji, while speaking with Abesan News earlier today on the event, said the children are set for a showdown among themselves to know who the Chess champions will be. A position that will be highly revered and rewarded.
The event which will produce an overall winner and individual class winners will be attended by some of the best Coaches and Players in Nigerian Chess. Mr. Funto Olanrewaju, a Master Player who has represented Nigeria in the game overseas, and the CEO of PEDA-CHESS will be organising the Tournament with the help of some other Masters in Nigerian Chess.
When Abesan News asked the Head Teacher why Chess, She said Chess has been proven not just to be a game but a helpful tool that develops the brain of the children. According to her, chess helps them in their analytical skills, it makes them smarter and gives them an edge over other children in general reasoning.
Though this competition coming up on Saturday is for the pupils in the school, there are plans to hold a competition that will accommodate pupils from other schools in the nearest future.
Mrs. Patricia Orji, the Head of School, a lover of chess who knows the moves of the game hopes to improve on her skills soon and maybe become a National player herself as almost everybody around her plays chess.
The children are in high spirit and ready for the competition as they are all set to outshine themselves in the King’s game.
