A flash promotional offer by Kenya Airways that offered Nigerian travellers significant discounts on flights to Nairobi came to a close on Tuesday, leaving many who had been planning trips to Kenya particularly those eyeing the landmark Voice of Africa Leadership Summit (VOALS) in August hoping for a another opportunity.
The airline's special deal which reduced the Lagos - Nairobi route by more than half the price lasted for just one day, May 25, 2026. The promo was run in partnership with MASTERCARD.
The contrast in fares sparked a wave of frustration among early buyers who purchased their Lagos-to-Nairobi return tickets weeks ahead for as much as N1.8 million per seat.
When the Kenya Airways promotional offer went live on Monday, that same ticket was available for as low as N773,000 a staggering difference of over one million naira. By Tuesday evening, with the promo window closed, fares had climbed back to their pre-promotion levels, leaving early buyers feeling short changed.

"I booked my ticket in March thinking I was being responsible and planning ahead," one delegate told our correspondent. "Then I woke up yesterday to see people getting the same flight for less than half of what I paid. It felt like I was being punished for planning early." Several others who paid the premium price voiced similar sentiments, with many questioning whether the airline had any obligation to offer fare adjustments or refunds on the difference.
Intending passengers who had not yet booked also expressed regret at having missed the offer entirely. "I was still comparing prices and waiting to confirm my accommodation when I heard the promo had ended," said one Lagos-based delegate registered for VOALS. "By the time I was ready to book, it was over."

The timing is particularly significant given the growing buzz around the maiden edition of VOALS. The Voice of Africa Leadership Summit (VOALS), scheduled for August 2026 in Nairobi, Kenya, is a pioneering platform dedicated to equipping and empowering African women to rise into positions of influence and impact, bringing together visionary leaders, entrepreneurs, policymakers, faith leaders, and changemakers from across the continent and the diaspora. For many Nigerian women making the journey, the cost of flights remains a significant consideration, making promotional fares all the more consequential.

Travel analysts note that Kenya Airways has shown a pattern of rolling out periodic flash sales, offering some hope to those who missed Monday's window. On average, the airline releases multiple promotional codes per month, and observers recommend checking the Kenya Airways website regularly, subscribing to their email newsletter, and following their social media channels for announcements of upcoming discounts.
With VOALS still roughly two months away, there remains reasonable optimism that another promotional window could emerge before August. Airlines frequently intensify marketing around high-profile continental events, and Kenya Airways as Kenya's flagship carrier may well be expected to roll out event-tied offers closer to the summit date.
As at the time of filing this report, the website of Kenya Airways is not allowing any booking of flight.
