TINUBU COMMISSIONS THREE NAVAL VESSELS AT 70TH ANNIVERSARY FLEET REVIEW

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday commissioned three new naval vessels—NNS Oloibiri, NNS Mambila, and NNS Gurara—praising the Nigerian Navy for seven decades of safeguarding the nation’s maritime borders and economic interests.

Speaking as the reviewing officer at the 2026 International Fleet Review at the Eko Atlantic Waterfront in Lagos, Tinubu commended the Navy’s success in wiping out piracy and curbing crude oil theft in the Gulf of Guinea, noting that these operations have directly boosted national oil production and investor confidence.

"The Nigerian Navy has become an indispensable pillar of both national and regional security," Tinubu said, also lauding the Navy's counterterrorism efforts and the recent induction of the Nigerian Navy Marines. He pledged his administration’s continued investment in modern technology and fleet expansion.

The Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, credited the Navy's recent operational successes to the President's strategic funding and leadership, reaffirming the service’s commitment to defending Nigeria's blue economy.

The historic milestone was attended by top government officials, including Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Defence Minister Gen. Christopher Musa (rtd), and naval chiefs from several Gulf of Guinea and European nations.
