Court Remands DJ Chicken at Kirikiri Over Alleged Death Threat Against Seyi Tinubu
Content creator and social media personality Ademola Abiodun, popularly known as DJ Chicken, has been remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre in Lagos State following his arraignment before a Magistrate's Court over allegations that he issued a death threat against Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu.
DJ Chicken was arraigned on Friday, July 10, 2026, before Magistrate M.F. Onamusi at the Magistrate's Court in the Ogba area of Lagos. He was charged on a three-count charge bordering on threat to kill, conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace, and offences under the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015.
According to the prosecution, the charges stemmed from a video the defendant posted on his social media platforms in the preceding week, in which he was said to have made statements interpreted as a threat to the life of Seyi Tinubu while commenting on the 2027 presidential election. He was also reported to have claimed that President Tinubu would not secure re-election in 2027.
The first count accuses DJ Chicken of posting a video containing a threat to kill Seyi Tinubu through his social media accounts, an offence punishable under Section 232 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. The second count alleges that he transmitted a grossly offensive and menacing message through a computer network, contrary to Section 24 of the Cybercrime Act, 2015. The third count alleges that his conduct was likely to cause a breach of the peace and was intended to intimidate or embarrass Seyi Tinubu, contrary to Section 168(d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Following public backlash over the video, DJ Chicken posted another video in which he retracted the earlier remarks, describing them as a joke intended to attract public attention and content engagement. He insisted he had no intention of harming Seyi Tinubu. Despite the retraction and apology, the Lagos State Government proceeded with the criminal charges.
DJ Chicken pleaded not guilty to all three counts. He was granted bail in the sum of ₦1 million, with two sureties in like sum, one of whom must be a civil servant and the other a community leader with landed property within the state. Pending the fulfilment of the bail conditions, the magistrate ordered that he be remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre.
The case has been adjourned until August 3, 2026, for further proceedings.
