Non-Governmental-Organisations,
NGOs are usually set up to compliment the efforts of the government. Most NGOs
help in the development especially of the grassroots. Most of them enjoy the
support of the government to facilitate their activities. One of such NGOs is
Hope Builders’ Foundation; HBF.
In their series
of visiting schools for Career/Mentorship programmes , Hope Builders
Foundation, HBF on Friday 19th June, 2015 visited Government Senior
College, Agege, Lagos.
The event that brought professionals together and
was held at the Main Auditorium of the school started at 10am with an opening prayer.
After the National and School anthem, the Principal of the school, represented
by the Vice Principal, Mrs. Farinde welcomed the students and guests. Addressing
the students, she told them it was a rare privilege to have so many
professionals in their school in one day. She encouraged them to listen
carefully and make good use of the information they will get.
First speaker,
Dr. Mustapha Olusegun, a medical Doctor with Lagos State
University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH, took the children on a tour of
requirements to becoming a medical Doctor. He highlighted the subjects to learn
and master and told them to make reading a part of them. He also told them that
studying hard assures them of being out of poverty, a disease many people
dread. The children were excited to have the professionals in their midst as
they asked questions and participated excellently. Other speakers at the event include
Mrs. Opeoluwa Orobiyi, CEO of OmoOba Eledua voices and Music School, Mrs.
Chichi Umeseaka, Publisher of 9ineteen Magazine, Mrs.Tosin Eyinloju Jesu who

clear to them that they cannot feature in a future they cannot picture.
There were many highlights of the event, one of which
was when Mrs. Opeoluwa Orobiyi, aka Omo Oba Eledua mounted the stage to dance,
the children clapped, shouted, sang and danced to her music. She gave 7
students of the school scholarship to her dance academy. Another highlight was
when Mrs. Folashade Adeyole, CEO of Foleb Interiors Decoration asked the
students to name any successful Entrepreneur they know. One of them got lucky
when she mentioned the name of Folashade Adeoye and won for herself, Twenty Thousand
Naira on the spot. The other student that came out won a training that will
ordinarily cost her One Hundred and Twenty Thousand Naira.
For the excellent way the students participated and
showed interest in the different career talks, the CEO of Hope Builders
Foundation, HBF, Mrs Folayemisi Adu was so impressed that she gave scholarship
to 33 students for vocational studies, opposed to the initial 5 students the
NGO wanted to give scholarships to.
