AMEN Center |
meanwhile, the shop owners have not had electricity for close to six months at a go.
It sounds unbelievable but it is true. Some of the businesses have been forced to close down. The business owners are bitter with the management on what they feel is an I-don’t-care attitude. But today just as we promised, we spoke with the woman in charge of the building, Mrs. Shode and the president of Abesan Estate Residents Association, Pastor Ogundimu Kehinde.
While pastor Ogundimu claimed not to be aware that his tenants have not had electricity supply for four months when he also has an office in the facility, a claim that looks strange to us, Mrs. Shode on her part highlighted the different steps the management of AMEN Center has taken to solve the unfortunate situation they found themselves in.
According to Mrs. Shode, AMEN Center got a Transformer when it was built, a decision taken so they could enjoy uninterrupted electricity, that is what they were made to believe. Months down the line, they realised the bill they were being given was not only crazy but loathsome. There was no way they were going to make any money if they kept paying the bills Ikeja Electric was giving them. There were times their supply was cutoff and so they decided at a time to tell Ikeja Electric to come and take the Transformer and put them back on the normal Abesan Estate line, which they expected would come cheaper. They even decided Ikeja Electric should cutoff the events Hall from their supply totally and only put the shops, having cleared their outstanding with Ikeja Electric. Mrs. Shode made it clear the management is really concerned about the plights of the shop occupants and will definitely not go to sleep while they suffer.
Ikeja Electric promised today, Tuesday, January 10, 2017 to restore electricity to AMEN Center, that’s according to Mrs. Shode, and we are waiting for that to happen so the shop owners can heave a sigh of relief.
