John Adeshina with children at Ilaje, a Lagos slum |
According to World Health
Organisation (WHO) at the 1989 Convention in Geneva, Food, Clothing and Shelter
are the three basic needs of humans.
According to Global statistics,
almost half the world, over three billion people live on less than $2.50 a day,
a staggering statistics.
The people of Ilaje in Bariga
area of Lagos state, Nigeria definitely belong to the group of poor people. With
no portable water and roads, they wake up each day to their fishing profession.
A profession the children who should be going to school engage in.
The only school in that community
is being run by a missionary and it can only accommodate 150 children, a far
cry from the number of children there.
PUSH Foundation, a nongovernmental
organization run by an Ibadan based young man with passion for touching lives,
John Adeshina, decided to visit the community to feed and clothe some of them
on Saturday, 28th October, 2017. This was done in conjunction with Passion For Lives Int’l, a Lekki, Lagos
based NGO (08024936761).
The NGOs fed and gave clothes to
members of the community who were in high spirits.
Speaking with Alimosho Standard,
the Founder of PUSH Foundation and a statistician by profession, John Adeshina articulated
his passion for touching lives. He called the NGO a vision he had a long time
ago. Since two years that he started running PUSH Foundation, he has visited
communities, orphanage homes, slums and less privileged people to give clothes
and feed them.
PUSH Foundation also organizes events
in schools where “John Bosco”, a fictitious character the founder created,
talks to the students to ignore cultism and other social vices. They also organize
concerts where they raise money and give all to the less privileged.
Though John Adeshina who
spearheads the activities worked with a multinational company in the past, he resigned
to face what he calls his passion, squarely. He can be reached on pushinternational.org@gmail.com
or on phone 07030128112.
