The first lady of Lagos State, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, showcased her commitment to healthcare on Tuesday, 5th September 2023, as she unveiled an ultra-modern Accident and Emergency ward at Somolu General Hospital in Lagos. The newly constructed building, completed in just three months, is equipped with cutting-edge equipment to enhance the effectiveness of medical personnel.

Dr. Saliu Oseni, the Medical Director of Somolu General Hospital, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, emphasizing that this remarkable 15-bed facility would not have been possible without the relentless support of Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu. Notably, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, who preceded Dr. Oseni as the first lady, had consistently provided unwavering support whenever called upon.

In her speech, the first lady, filled with enthusiasm, thanked Dr. Oseni for his dedicated efforts since assuming his position. She paid tribute to the late Dr. Christian Akinwale, an esteemed physician whose tireless work shaped Somolu General Hospital into what it is today. Describing Dr. Akinwale as a kind, humble, and amiable man who always pursued the best for everyone, she celebrated his legacy and the honor being bestowed upon him. The first lady offered prayers for his departed soul and urged the remaining medical staff to continue their diligent work.

Mr. Gbenga Ogunwale, speaking on behalf of friends of the late Dr. Christian Akinwale, expressed gratitude towards the first lady and the hospital for naming the emergency ward after their dear friend. He highlighted that Dr. Akinwale was renowned for his unwavering availability during emergencies and expressed joy that the ward carried his name. As a token of their appreciation, the friends also contributed medical equipment. They made a generous cash donation to support needy individuals within the hospital.





The kind gesture from the late doctor's friends received heartfelt appreciation from the First Lady and the Medical Director. The event was attended by notable dignitaries, including Dr. Segun Ogboye, the P.S. of the Ministry of Health, represented by Dr. Wuraola Makinde and Dr. Atinuke Onayiga, Chairman of, the Health Service Commission. Others include Dr. Olumide Sojirin, Chairman of, the Committee of Medical Directors, Chairman of the local government, wives of Lagos state government officials, Babaloja and Iyaloja of Somolu, and Community leaders, among many others.
