Go and develop your communities! Obasa tells Council bosses.

Lagos State House of Assembly Sets Strict Development Targets for Local Government Councils

Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa

The Lagos State House of Assembly has taken a proactive step to address the lack of development in grassroots areas by imposing new mandates on local government chairmen and officials. Speaker Mudashiru Obasa has directed that each council completes at least one developmental project every quarter for the duration of their four-year term. This decision comes after reports revealed that many council chairmen have failed to meet the expectations of their constituents.

In a series of meetings with council chairmen, vice chairmen, councillors, and senior staff, Speaker Obasa emphasized the need for strict compliance to the interests and aspirations of the people. He expressed concern over the mismanagement of funds and the absence of impactful projects in local communities. Obasa urged the chairmen to prioritize the construction of well-equipped maternity centers in each ward and the creation of parks and gardens for the well-being of residents.

Moving forward, the Assembly expects concrete results from the chairmen, emphasizing that regular projects should leave a lasting positive impact on the community. The speaker cautioned against power blocs within the councils and demanded collaboration with vice chairmen and councillors in the decision-making process. Additionally, he reminded the council officials of their responsibility to treat their colleagues and staff with fairness and respect.

The chairman of Conference57, Kolade David, expressed appreciation for the Speaker's advice and assured him of a renewed commitment to efficient governance within the council areas. The Assembly hopes that these new mandates will drive progress and improve the lives of the people in Lagos State.
