Tears flowed freely at the Renewed Hope Relief Cash Package flag-off held on Friday 7th November, 2025 in Mosan Okunola LCDA as Hon. Akindele Adunni Opeyemi, Executive Chairman, learned of 13-year-old Alfred Akande’s desperate battle with chronic kidney disease.
The event, where 200 indigent residents received ₦100,000 each, turned emotional when Dr. Abiola Mobolaji Adeyinka, the Council’s Medical Officer of Health, presented Alfred’s case. Diagnosed with chronic kidney disease secondary to posterior urethral valve and vesico-ureteral reflux, Alfred needs ₦17 million for a life-saving kidney transplant at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH).
A medical report from LASUTH Consultant Paediatric Nephrologist Dr. B. V. Jeje (dated September 9, 2025) confirmed the urgency: Alfred has been ill since four months old and undergone two unsuccessful surgeries.
Overwhelmed, Hon. Akindele broke down in tears and immediately pledged ₦10 million from the council. “Our children are our future,” she declared. “God didn’t put us here for ourselves but for the people we govern.”
Her Campaign DG, Abdul-Ahmed Ayodele Alawaye (Triple A), instantly donated ₦1 million. The hall erupted in support:
- Alhaji Ishola Jimoh Ejigbadero: ₦3 million
- Hon. Ganiyu Ayuba (House of Reps): ₦2 million
- Mosan Okunola Legislative Arm: ₦500,000
- Hon. Rotimi Ogunwuyi: ₦200,000
- Alhaji Yisa Yusuf: ₦250,000
- Engr. Bosun Oduntan: ₦50,000
Total pledges quickly reached ₦17 million.
Hon. Akindele vowed to involve sister councils, the State Commissioner for Health, and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. “His case is settled in Jesus’ name,” she assured. Any excess funds will establish Alfred’s mother in business.
Alfred’s mother, Mrs. Funmilayo Elizabeth Akande, wept with joy: “We had lost hope. Today, Hon. Akindele restored my son’s life.”
Little Alfred promised in his thank-you letter: “I will grow up to become a good leader like her.”
