Ikeja Electric Denounces Malicious Online Smear Campaign

Ikeja Electric Denounces Malicious Online Smear Campaign, Vows Legal Action Against Defamatory Claims

Ikeja Electric Plc has strongly refuted a circulating online publication that levels baseless accusations of impropriety against the firm and personally attacks its Chief Executive Officer, Mrs. Folake Soetan, and Board Chairman, Dr. Kola Adesina.

In an official statement released on February 3, 2026, the company described the material widely shared via WhatsApp groups and various social media platforms as "malicious and misleading." The publication, purportedly issued by an entity called the "Nigerian Global Business Forum" (NGBF) and signed by individuals identified as “Dr. Alaba Kalejaiye” and “Musa Ahmed,” alleges misconduct in the company's operations, safety standards, and financial dealings.

Ikeja Electric categorically dismissed these claims as fabricated and designed to tarnish the reputation of its leadership and undermine public trust in the organization.

Preliminary investigations by the company revealed that the so-called Nigerian Global Business Forum lacks any verifiable registration or legal existence, either in Nigeria or internationally. No credible records of the organization could be found in corporate registries, and it maintains no official digital footprint, such as a website or verified social media accounts.

Furthermore, the signatories named in the publication have no established professional credentials or public profiles that lend legitimacy to their accusations, according to the company's findings.

"The publication contains false and misleading statements regarding Ikeja Electric’s operations, safety record, and financial practices," the statement emphasized.

In response, Ikeja Electric has engaged its legal team to conduct a thorough forensic investigation into the origins of the content. The company confirmed it will pursue defamation proceedings against the authors, publishers, and any individuals or groups identified as sponsoring or spreading the material.

While acknowledging ongoing challenges in the power sector, Ikeja Electric reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability, and continuous service enhancement. The company stated it operates under rigorous governance standards and will not tolerate "coordinated disinformation campaigns" aimed at damaging its integrity or eroding consumer confidence.

"Ikeja Electric remains steadfast in its mandate to deliver reliable power while upholding the highest standards of corporate governance and customer excellence," the statement concluded.

The company urged members of the public to completely disregard the offending publication and to rely on official channels for accurate information about its operations.
