Mosan-Okunola LCDA Launches Major Market Fumigation Drive to Enhance Public Health

Mosan-Okunola LCDA Launches Major Market Fumigation Drive to Enhance Public Health

In a proactive move to improve hygiene and protect residents from health hazards, the Mosan-Okunola Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Lagos State conducted a large-scale fumigation exercise across key markets on Friday evening, January 30, 2026.

The operation, led by the council's Environmental Health Services Department, targeted three prominent markets: Alasua Market, Egbeda Market, and the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Modern Market. These bustling commercial hubs serve thousands of traders and shoppers daily in the Ipaja and surrounding areas of the LCDA.

Executive Chairman Hon. Akindele Adunni Opeyemi described the initiative as a key component of her administration's ongoing commitment to public health, food safety, and environmental cleanliness. "This fumigation exercise is a deliberate effort to eliminate pests, disease-carrying vectors, and other harmful organisms that threaten the well-being of our traders and consumers," she stated.

The chairman emphasized that maintaining pest-free and sanitary market environments is essential for preventing potential disease outbreaks, reducing food contamination risks, and protecting traders' merchandise from spoilage and financial losses. She noted that such measures would also build greater consumer trust, stimulate economic activity, and create safer working conditions for market operators.

"This is not a one-off activity," Hon. Adunni added. "Our administration remains fully committed to sustaining these efforts to ensure consistently high sanitary standards across all markets in Mosan-Okunola LCDA."

As part of the exercise, she called on traders, market associations, and other stakeholders to fully cooperate with the fumigation teams and adhere to recommended safety guidelines to maximize the operation's effectiveness and minimize any disruptions.

The market fumigation program aligns with the council's comprehensive public health and environmental sanitation strategy, aimed at raising the overall quality of life for residents in this fast-growing part of Lagos.
