PULL A HEAD DEMOCRACY by Oke Olukunle James

The brilliant shinning of the sun personified the great jubilation of the atmosphere clothe with inevitable burst of wonders. The laborious yelling of the multitude of crowd awoke me from my deep sleep. I stretched the shutter of the curtain in my room to peep through what was happening, (The politicians!). They have come with their rally again!
I felt dumbfounded to give answers to the indebted questions in the depth of my heart. The argument and the pool of risk of whom do I cast my vote for, conscience and future of the prospective generation occupy the space of my heart. Really, manifestoes and campaigns speak of their decorum, yet Nigerians nurse fear in exercising their franchise. I say figuratively without an iota of doubt that a wind of change has come. Democracy is the answer!
Gone are those days when democracy was regarded as a fig leaf because it recoils in horror at the sight of people. It is an outright victory to over poverty, a scandalous waste of resources, governmental dissatisfaction and other perjuries.
Modern societies require organization for the purpose of maintaining peace, order and progress. These basic human needs are today highly promoted by the government, either directly or through its agencies. However, the increased size of the population and complexity of socio- economic activities and society today, direct involvement in daily administration of these societies, communities or states is no longer possible. This development has called for a democratic state. Let us all vote during the period of election to have a representative democracy. The advantages of having a representative democracy cannot but be overemphasized, if only all Nigerians can bear the pains. Let’s examine few among the numerous advantages of a representative democracy.
Since the equality before law is difficult to achieve, a representative democracy is the only principle of rule of law that respects the position of the citizens of a country.
A representative democracy checks the abuse of power and induces confidence in the operation of the judiciary.
Respect for human rights and right to join social groups make a representative democracy more practicable and desirable.
Policies to alleviate abject poverty and create job opportunities for youth empowerment are a long vision to be implemented in a representative democracy.
Cordial political communication, accountability by leaders and promotion of universal freedom is part of the attributes of a representative democracy.
Life is never in permutation and combination, but in substituting for values which brings an intrinsic result. It’s high time we elected political party of like-minds to drive the ship of our renowned country to the right shore.
Democracy for all! Freedom for all!! Independence for all!!!
