Two convicted for Transformers vandalism

The Lagos State Magistrate Court in Ejigbo has sentenced two individuals, Abubakar Alido and Ishola Olatunji, to prison terms for vandalizing transformers belonging to Ikeja Electric Plc.

Abubakar Alido received a one-year sentence for vandalizing a 500KVA transformer on Michael Aladesuyi Street, Egbeda, under the Omo Osho 11KV Feeder. He was apprehended by a security guard, handed over to the police, and arraigned at the Magistrate Court 1, Ejigbo, on June 14, 2024.

Ishola Olatunji was sentenced to six months for attempting to vandalize a transformer on Karimu Laka Street, Egbeda, under the Orelope 11KV Feeder. He was caught by members of the Karimu Laka community, handed over to the police, and arraigned at the Magistrate Court 1, Ejigbo, on March 11, 2024.

The convictions serve as a deterrent to other vandals, given the rising incidence of such crimes in the area. Ikeja Electric's management expressed satisfaction with the judgments, emphasizing the significant damage caused by vandalism to their operations and the inconvenience to customers.

The company urged communities to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, as vandals continue to devise new methods to disrupt electricity supply. Mr. Kingsley Okotie, Ikeja Electric's Head of Corporate Communications, commended the joint efforts of the Security and Legal teams, as well as external stakeholders, in pursuing the cases to a logical conclusion.
